Wand 5 will also present outstanding experimental and essayistic long films, a large part of which was produced by artists that have participated in the short film competition for a long time. E.g. we will show an experimental documentary film by the Canadian director Mike Hoolboom on the life of Tom Chomont, key figure of the New York underground, notorious video artist, AIDS victim and storyteller, as well as the sequel of Gustav Deutsch's long running project "Film ist." (“Film is.”). In the sequences or chapters 7-12 Deutsch digs even deeper into the history of the silent movie. The individual sequels are structured by diverse aspects and topics such as "funny", "magic", "capture", "emotion and passion", "memory and document". However, "Film ist. (7-12)" isn't an ordinary found footage film, but an outstanding document of new electronic music. Silent film fragments become extended by compositions of Werner Dafeldecker, Christian Fennesz a.o.
