ADRIFT

NORWAY 2003, 10:00 MIN., COLOR DIRECTED BY INGER LISE HANSEN
Adrift is shot on the arctic island of Spitzbergen and in Norway. It combines time-lapse photography with stop-motion animation of the landscape. Through camera-angles and framing the film gradually dislocates the viewer from a stable base where one looses the sense of scale and grounding. Adrift takes perception itself as the subject of its journey.

ORWELLNESS DISCHINGERWEG

GERMANY 2002/2004, 10:30 MIN., COLOR, GERMAN WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY FERDINAND LUDWIG EDITING, SOUND EDITING FERDINAND LUDWIG CAMERA ANDREA ROGGON
“Dischingerweg“ in Stuttgart Wolfbusch, a residential street built up by unemployed people in a self-help project in 1938 is a very unusual area and can be distiguished by one thing: its high degree of commonness. Everyone in the neighbourhood knows each other, everyone helps each other and that has been going on for quite an eternity. An observation-like camera motion through hedges and fences shows petty bourgeoisy from one house to the next. Sometimes the camera motion slows down, the dull sound of the car engine turns down. You can hear a voice mentioning a name and something about someone else. Gradually you realise, that the residents talk about their neighbourhood in Dischingerweg.

A disaster film. Danger is omnipresent, but vague and concentrated on its verbal invocation. Like in a piece of concrete music, appellative signal words (General, Sir!, Commander!) accelerate, culminating in the coda: Catastrophe! New territory of retroactive science fiction: the director’s cut.

A fusion of multi-layered polyphonic sampling, heavy, relentless beats, and scorching satire, “The Free Speech Zone“, a psychedelic Dada/techno opera, is a scathing condemnation of the American government‘s quest for world domination through unrelenting mind control.
