TRAVELLER‘S TALES

AUSTRIA 2003, 13:00 MIN., COLOR, GERMAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES DIRECTED BY TIM SHARP
From the mobility of image-making to discursive images of mobility; Tim Sharp‘s video work “Traveller‘s Tales“ does not only pursue these movements thematically but demonstrates the transition in the form of complex acts of montage. “Traveller‘s Tales“ weaves a dense discursive net around the connections between images, travel, migration and nomadism starting out from found footage loose ends. The latter consist of a total of one and a half minutes of “waste“ from a German-language documentary production probably from around the year 1970 with the working title Tuareg. From these out-takes, Sharp has extracted individual motifs, mainly static shots of simple events or poses, looped and rearranged them.

“There are things I could say about “Daylight Moon“ but very few I want to before someone has seen it. but I will say this: of all the films I‘ve made using collage to muck around in the past, this one gets the closest to what I‘m after.“ - L.K.

SATELLITE

CANADA 2004, 6:00 MIN. DIRECTED BY NELSON HENRICKS
“The human ear. A gatherer of energy. A gatherer of sound RPMs and BPMs. Satellites go up to the sky.“ In the video “Satellite“, Nelson Henricks combines found footage and techno beats to question western society‘s ongoing obsession with science, technology and the future. Juxtaposing images derived from old educational films with absurd, aphoristic slogans, henricks offers up a witty, entertaining and provocative connemtary of our need to make sense of everything, at any cost.
